California passed a hands-free law that took effect around July 1. It's now illegal to talk on a wireless phone without a "hands-free" device. I would theorize this makes driving much MORE dangerous. Instead of just picking up the phone, I'm now faced with either untangling a headset or trying to get my bluetooth headset to actually connect to my iPhone. As I fumble with this, hurtling down the road, I often wonder what the effect of this law is. Unless you're a headset manufacturer (who no doubt lobbied hard for this law) it seems to me to be a quintessential example of un-intended consequences.
